Notice of CLOSURE: AMS Inc. President’s letter 29/06/2022
Auckland Multicultural Society Inc.
“Each Culture Unites Through Understanding to Strengthen
New Zealand Society”
Auckland, New Zealand – 29/06/ 2022
To: Auckland Multicultural Society members/ Participants/ Funders/ Supporters
Late Catherine Caughey was the founder of Auckland Multicultural Society (AMS) in 1978. The organisation was well supported by many like-minded volunteers.
The Motto “Each Culture unites through understanding to strengthen New Zealand Society” attracted different cultures and ethnic communities to unite in the promotion of AMS activities.
The organisation steadily progressed over the years with variety of activities held at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, Schools, Shopping Malls and Parks. These activities laid the foundation for accelerated acceptance of Multiculturalism and Diversity in Auckland.
The society functioned very successfully for more than four decades due to the dedication of volunteer members.
Myself having involved with AMS Inc. for more than 38 years it is with much reluctance and sadness made a decision to wind up the society, due to lack of committed members to carry on the Society. At our AGM held on 29th May 2022, majority of the members made this decision. It is with a heavy heart I had to make this announcement public.
The Multicultural Expo 2022 will be our finale Public Event to be held on Sunday 7th August 2022 at Panmure Community Hall – 7/13 Pilkington Rd., Panmure, Auckland from 12:00 to 4:30pm.
I take this opportunity with the Executive Committee to thank you all for the support rendered over the years for the success of the Society. It is very much appreciated.
Thank you and kind regards.
Thurai Thuraisundaram
President 2021-2022
